| History of the Nu Bang Clan (sort of...) NU BANG CLAN HISTORY: The Nu Bang Clan is a collective of djs, producers, and promoters who have aligned themselves into a network dedicated to bringing the new music to the masses. Formulated on April 17, 2001 by nine students and one teacher, the Nu Bang Clan met regularly at the Temple known as the Sidecar to display their various skills to their master teacher Alan King. A veteran of the Chicago music scene, Alan King along with other “elders” of the Chosen Few created “The Giant” to dominate the underground scene and take their musical teachings of disco into the new millennium. Upon the Giant’s appearance on the underground scene, many students scattered and fled, fearing the Giant’s and his “Same 30 Records Clan”. As the casualties mounted, there was fear that all that was new would be lost, absorbed by The Giant and his Eagle Claw Style. But there was one student of the 30 Record Clan who embraced the new sound, much to the chagrin of The Giant. Slick was his name, and he held a disco black belt. His “Formless Water Styles of the Four Decades Technique” was perfected after laboring many years in the Giant’s clan. In the third month of the year MMI, Slick ventured forth from the Giant’s clan seeking knowledge about this underground music he had been hearing about. During his journey, Slick met GregG1010, a nomad from the now closed Power Plant, one of two schools who taught this underground style Slick was seeking. Their initial meetings were tense, as members of the 30 Record Clan were not always welcome on the underground. But as time progressed, GregG1010 & Slick developed a mutual respect for each other, and Slick was put on the path to T3, the Turn-Table Temple. It was the opportunity Slick had been waiting for, a chance to study the white labels and bootlegs that GregG1010 and Steve Price had been displaying at the Temple Sidecar. Upon hearing of Slick’s studying of this new style, the Giant was furious. He dispatched his mightiest warriors to apprehend Slick and return him to the 30 Record Clan. But, it was too late, Slick had immersed himself into this new underground style and was beginning his conversion. The Giant again tried to reclaim his once-prized student, even to the point of obtaining the underground Bonita Applebaum to entice his pupil to return. As a test of his commitment, young Slick and another knowledge seeker Rom were quested to go back to the Giant and his 30 Record Clan and secure the underground Bonita Applebaum from the clutches of The Giant. In preparation for the inevitable battle with the Giant’s warriors, GregG1010 & Steve Price enlisted the services of another student and longtime friend, Sifu E-Phi of the AMC. E-Phi and his “Infinite Record” styles were a welcome addition, as his knowledge of the Giant’s Eagle Claw Style and arsenal of disco weaponry would soon prove valuable in upcoming battles against he Giant and his clan. In a bold move, The Giant entered the Temple Sidecar declaring his style to be underground also, only to be soundly defeated by Sifu E- Phi. Bloodied, but unbowed, the Giant retreated to his school to study this underground style and how it was able to defeat him so easily. Bent on vengeance, the Giant recruited students who also versed in the underground, absorbing their knowledge and structuring it for his own. The Giant was preparing for a battle of immense proportions, the likes of which haven’t been seen since the “Demolition Days” at Cominsky Park. Word soon spread of the preparations of the Giant to wage war against these five students with his entire arsenal of warriors, flying discs, steel reels, and plastic stealth casings, and thousands of followers. How could these five students withstand such an onslaught? The answer would not come from a turntable, but from a bassman. Enter Sensei Jere MC. Sensei Jere MC: “I have long sat by the wayside and watched this battle waged between disco and the underground. For many years, I have been on the quest to master the most sought after dominating and unforgiving Neve & SSL styles. I have meditated and sought after knowledge in the temples and dojos of my domain and many foreign lands. The journey has been both rewarding, costly and sometimes disheartening. The journey has taken me far, both physically and spiritually. I have seen many things. I have seen the discarded bodies of many, who have dared to attempt to master these styles, strewn across the countryside. I have seen the elation of the triumphant warriors who have persevered, as they have achieved mastery and reached Nirvana. I have stood at the precipice and seen victory in the distance. But, I can see that the time draws near to once again enter into the field of battle and reclaim my place as a mighty and feared warrior.” In addition to Sensei Jere MC, others students and warriors of the underground began to align themselves in preparation for battle against the Giant. Sensei Sweetdaddy Cordell Johnson, Master Lo Ce-Ling Rudy Jordan, Master Nu-Yung Joc Tim McAllister, and the mighty Warrior From the River of Eternal Depths Fred “Mr.” Anderson offered their services to this upstart band of students preparing to battle the Giant. All that remained now was a teacher, a leader, a Grand Sensei, who could direct this underground collective of music purveyors. After much discussion, the answer became clear, they needed a king, his name was Alan, and he was dubbed the Grand Sensei Dub Dub Alan King, and elder from the Chosen Few. Alan King and the elders recognized their creation of the Giant and the many followers he has amassed. “For it is I and the other elders, whose teachings created the Giant’s style, which is at once blinding and maddening. You are most wise (to have me teach your students). Indeed, we must not only defeat the Giant, we must also save him as well.” Thus was born the Nu Bang Clan.
